LED Lighting for Padel Courts – The Complete Guide

Lighting is part of the standard configuration of MejorSet courts; without it, a court cannot be used after dark. All current MejorSet court models are supplied with LED lighting in their standard configuration, and the lighting posts and floodlights are part of the court kit. This guide explains what lighting quality depends on, how lighting is chosen by level of play and what needs to be prepared before installation.

What Matters in Padel Court Lighting

The wattage of a luminaire says little on its own. What matters is how much light reaches the court, how evenly it is distributed across the whole surface and how glare is controlled. Uniform light distribution is critical because shadows and dark areas make it difficult to track the ball and diminish the quality of play. A powerful but poorly distributed floodlight performs worse than a well-designed, uniform system.

In the photometric calculation, illuminance is designed as a maintained value, using a maintenance factor that allows for the decline in light output over time. Sports lighting is governed by EN 12193; the colour temperature and flicker-free operation are confirmed by the technical data sheet of the chosen luminaire.

Lighting by Level of Play

Lighting is chosen by level of play, not by wattage:

• Recreation, schools, training and local competitions — the standard lighting of MejorSet courts is sufficient outdoors and indoors.
• Regional competitions and serious training — standard lighting is sufficient indoors, while outdoor courts need stronger lighting.
• National and international level — for this level MejorSet specifies only a stronger lighting configuration: LED Projects SKY outdoors and ECO-T indoors.

If you plan to host tournaments or championships or to film matches for broadcast, it is best to choose the lighting when the offer is prepared, because replacing posts and luminaires later is expensive.

LED Projects Luminaires

The optics of LED Projects luminaires were developed specifically for padel: asymmetric light distribution and reduced glare and shadows make the ball easier to follow and reduce eye fatigue.

• LINE — high efficiency and good uniformity.
• SKY — an outdoor luminaire with an aluminium housing, dimmable, suited to seaside locations and to open and covered outdoor courts. By the sea and on courts exposed to water, a luminaire with a higher protection rating is chosen.

Advanced systems support DALI control: scheduled switching, individual dimming of each luminaire and automatic intensity adjustment, which lowers consumption. Dimming depends on the chosen luminaire: the outdoor LED Projects SKY is dimmable, while the LED Projects LINE is not.

Lighting as Part of the Court Kit

MejorSet courts are designed with pre-planned mounting positions for lighting and are supplied with lighting posts and floodlights as part of the court kit, with no separate poles beside the court. The post shape (curved, Z-shaped or straight, depending on the model) changes the look of the facility, not the lighting; the Premier Padel Official Court has its own post design.

Before installation, the investor prepares the base to our technical specifications, including PVC conduits for the lighting cables, which are embedded in the slab before pouring, and the electrical connection for the lighting.

Lighting Control

With Smart Padel, lighting switches on according to the booking schedule and off according to the agreed schedule. Lighting warranty is provided by the LED manufacturer; its terms depend on the configuration and product. Consumption depends on the chosen luminaire, the number of luminaires and the operating hours; we state the lighting configuration in the individual offer.
